Port of Long Beach Receives $2.6 Million FEMA Grant to Boost Security and Infrastructure

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded the Port of Long Beach over $2.6 million in grants to bolster its critical infrastructure, ensuring the secure and efficient movement of goods through one of the nation’s busiest seaports.

Ranked as the third-largest recipient in FEMA’s Port Security Grant Program, the Port of Long Beach plans to strengthen its cybersecurity measures, enhance drone detection capabilities, and upgrade essential network systems that support cargo flow.

September marked a record-breaking month for container traffic at the Southern California port, with growth continuing through the third quarter.

Additional grants totaling $4.2 million were also allocated by the Department of Homeland Security to six port terminals, the Long Beach Police Department’s Port Police Division, and the Long Beach Fire Department.

These federal funds will advance security innovations and support infrastructure vital for moving goods valued at over $200 billion annually. The grant will further secure the livelihoods of the more than 2.6 million people whose jobs are tied to port operations, reinforcing Long Beach’s crucial role as a gateway for trans-Pacific trade.
