Public Input Requested on National Security Impact of Pharmaceutical and Semiconductor Imports

Federal authorities are seeking public feedback as part of two investigations examining the potential national security implications of importing pharmaceuticals and semiconductors.

One investigation focuses on the importation of pharmaceutical products and ingredients. The scope includes both generic and non-generic medications, medical countermeasures, essential components like active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), key starting materials, and related derivative products. The goal is to assess whether current import levels or dependencies pose a risk to national health and security infrastructure.

The second investigation addresses semiconductor imports and their broader impact on the nation’s technological and defense readiness. This includes components such as semiconductor manufacturing equipment, substrates, wafers, legacy and advanced chips, microelectronics, and related downstream products that integrate these technologies into consumer and industrial devices.
