A three-day strike has been announced that will significantly impact shipping traffic through one of Europe’s key maritime corridors. The industrial action is scheduled to begin at 21:00 on Monday, March 10, and continue until 22:00 on Thursday, March 13.
During the strike, incoming vessel traffic through the waterway will be halted, with only outbound ships allowed to proceed. Once the channel is cleared, the locks at both entry points will be closed for safety reasons and will remain shut until operations resume.
This waterway serves as a vital connection between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, facilitating trade and logistics for a wide range of industries. The disruption is expected to cause substantial delays in shipping operations, with congestion anticipated once the route reopens. The severity of the backlog will depend on the number of vessels awaiting passage.
The strike is part of a broader movement advocating for improved working conditions and fair wages for maritime personnel. Ongoing labor disputes highlight the essential role of these workers in maintaining global supply chains and ensuring the smooth flow of goods across key trade routes.
