Major Logistics Operator Deploys New Electric Rigid Truck to Power Cleaner LPG Deliveries

A major Australian logistics provider has expanded its electric vehicle fleet with the introduction of a Volvo FE Electric 4×2 rigid truck, designed specifically to support LPG delivery operations for one of the country’s leading energy suppliers.

This latest addition is part of the company’s broader $67 million initiative to integrate battery-electric heavy vehicles and charging infrastructure across its network. The investment is partially funded through the Australian Renewable Energy Agency’s Driving the Nation program, which aims to accelerate zero-emission transport adoption nationwide.

The Volvo FE Electric rigid has been engineered for dense urban environments and tailored to handle the unique demands of LPG cylinder transport. Depending on configuration, it carries between 280 and 375 kWh of onboard energy, delivering an estimated range of 200–275 km. With access to 150 kW fast-charging, the truck can be recharged in roughly 2.3 hours.

Powered by dual electric motors generating 225 kW (300 hp) of continuous output, the vehicle is rated to move loads up to 27 tonnes, supporting a wide range of industrial distribution needs.

Company leaders said the rollout demonstrates that electric heavy-duty vehicles are ready for real-world logistics challenges—not just conceptual trials. Their partnership with the energy retailer helped fine-tune the truck’s design for LPG-specific requirements and is already operating between facilities in Brisbane as part of a technology evaluation.

The energy provider echoed the sentiment, noting that the collaboration allowed for the development of an EV platform purpose-built for LPG deliveries. The company is exploring scaling the technology across its LPG distribution network following the trial.

This deployment follows a series of recent EV expansions by the logistics operator. In October, the company introduced two Volvo FMe Electric 6×4 prime movers for steel transport operations, rolled out 12 Volvo FE electric rigids to replace diesel units for a major beverage supplier’s national deliveries, and later delivered electric prime movers to support a supermarket chain’s Western Australia operations.
