Hong Kong has announced the formation of the Hong Kong Maritime and Port Development Board, an evolution of the former Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board. This strategic move aims to solidify Hong Kong’s reputation as a premier international maritime center.
Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee outlined several initiatives designed to propel Hong Kong forward as a green maritime hub. “We are committed to advancing Hong Kong’s development into a leading green maritime center, offering tax incentives, fostering a commodity trading ecosystem, and inviting more maritime service businesses from both the mainland and abroad to establish operations here,” Lee stated.
This development follows the recent establishment of the Hong Kong Chamber of Shipping, which seeks to enhance collaboration within the maritime industry.
Lee also noted future plans for infrastructure advancements. “Next year, we expect to complete our intelligent port system and continue to enhance our high-end modern logistics facilities,” he remarked.
Furthermore, the new Hong Kong Maritime and Port Development Board will form a specialized research and promotion team dedicated to supporting the sustainable growth of Hong Kong’s maritime sector. This initiative underscores Hong Kong’s proactive approach to maintaining its maritime leadership on the global stage.
